Purchasing Tips |
|
ASK FOR ENERGY STAR |
When purchasing windows, you need to specifiy if you want an ENERGY STAR rated window.
If you don't specifically state you want ENERGY STAR, you may be getting less window than you
thought and intended. Also, make sure your products match your Climate Zone. To find your
Climate Zone, check the ENERGY STAR website. |
All ENERGY STAR window, door and skylight manufacturer partners offer products that
meet qualification criteria. The key is to ask for them. |
CONFIRM THE ENERGY STAR LABEL |
Before the new product is installed, check for the ENERGY STAR label and make sure you
received the correct product. Windows should display and official ENERGY STAR label or equivalent
custom label, next to the NFRC label. There are a variety of custom labels but they all should
include the same elements as the official label:
- The ENERGY STAR Certification Mark
- A map showing where the product is qualified
- A qualification statement

HAVE WINDOWS PROPERLY INSTALLED |
Proper installation is critical for achieving full product performance and avoiding water
damage. Windows should be installed by trained installers according to manufacturer instructions. |
